National Education Association 2013 Annual Meeting & Representative Assembly

NEA’s Annual Meeting takes place during the final week of June and/or the first week of July. Various committees, constituencies, caucuses, leadership groups, and delegates from state and local affiliates gather to set policy and chart the direction of NEA business. The 2013 Annual Meeting will take place in Atlanta, GA.

The Representative Assembly (RA) takes place during the final four days of the Annual Meeting. It is the primary legislative and policy making body of the Association and derives its powers from, and is responsible to, the membership. The Representative Assembly adopts the strategic plan and budget, resolutions, the Legislative Program, and other policies of the Association. Delegates vote by secret ballot on proposed amendments to the Constitution and Bylaws. Those delegates with full voting rights elect the executive officers, Executive Committee members, and at-large members of the NEA Board of Directors, as appropriate.

Regency Suites of Atlanta Employees Honored by Georgia Hotel & Lodging Association

Atlanta, Georgia, June 19, 2012 – Regency Suites Hotel of Midtown Atlanta is delighted to announce that two devoted employees were recently honored by the Georgia Hotel & Lodging Association (GHLA) as Manager of the Year and RoomKeeper of the Year. The winners were awarded at the GHLA Stars of the Lodging Industry Awards Luncheon on March 15th in Atlanta.

Margie Brown, Regency’s Housekeeping Manager, was honored to accept the award for Manager of the Year. Brown has been a committed leader at the Regency Suites for over two decades and works tirelessly to ensure that each and every guest has a great stay at the Regency. While her official title is Director of Housekeeping, she can be found on any given day giving directions, helping guests with luggage, handling maintenance issues or anything else that will ensure a great guest experience. Brenadette Faust, Regency Suite’s General Manager, says that “I am truly lucky to have such a dedicated professional to work side by side with every day. I am so proud of Margie for receiving this state-wide recognition for the phenomenal job she does.”

Jean Harris, Regency’s Laundry Attendant, received the award for RoomKeeper of the year. Harris has worked for hotel since its opening in 1985 and embodies the spirit of the Regency. She is in charge of making sure every piece of linen placed in a Regency Suites room meets the strict standards for quality and comfort. Faust was thrilled that Harris received this award noting that “her warm hospitality and commitment to our guests truly makes her a gem. She is greatly deserving of this award as she represents all of the qualities that make up a truly great hospitality professional.”

Both of Regency’s winners of the GHLA awards exemplify the standards to which all of employees and partners are held as the hotel strives to be the best Midtown lodging option in Atlanta. Winners of the awards are automatically nominated to the national awards from the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA).

Regency Suites Hotel is honored to have received GHLA and national AH&LA awards in previous years including:

  • 2006: Shannon Bryant, Outstanding Administrative Employee, GHLA. Bryant also went on to win the National Award for Lodging Employee of the Year.
  • 2006: Brenadette Salter, General Manager of the Year, GHLA.
  • 2007: Outstanding Special Event, One-Time, GHLA. Regency went on to win that National Award as well.
  • 2008: Joy Frazier, Director of Sales, Outstanding Manager of the Year, GHLA.

Originally founded in 1907, the GHLA initiated the Stars of the Lodging Industry Awards as a way to give recognition to the top personnel throughout the lodging industry in Georgia. Winners were chosen from 257 nominations submitted by 63 different properties. Awards are given in 14 different categories for four different divisions across the state of Georgia.
